So far regardless of written directions I have used a normal fork. Why? I would ask myself even today the same question. I have seen it on some youtube videos, didn’t consider it so a critical tool. After awhile started asking myself if the amount of tiny very important roots being stuck to the fork and ripped away of the plant is actually the necessary effect.
After my son made the root hook for me the amount of damaged roots got substantially reduced. And I am telling, substantially!
So, please, do not use a plain fork! Make a simple root hook out of a little bit more rigid and thick wire and that’s it! The one below is made of a holding wire for an old bicycle mud guard.
